Oh, the simple ways of the Middle East. Everyone thinks this region is so complicated. But what could be less complicated than simply wishing away things you don’t like?
Don’t like gay people? Say they don’t exist. And, boom, the problem magically disappears!
Same goes for female surgeons.
Women aren’t supposed to be surgeons. At least not as far as Sheikh Ali Gomaa, former Grand Mufti of Egypt, is concerned.
The fact that there are female surgeons in the world (and probably in Egypt) doesn’t bother him.
He’ll just wish them away!
After all, as Sheikh Gomaa explains it, surgery “requires great physical effort – beyond what a woman is capable of.”
